In under 10 minutes you can learn how to properly thread a sewing machine! I've included some video tutorials here that I think adequately explain the three steps to threading a sewing machine. It is important to remember that all sewing machines are different, and may have slightly different ways of threading, but generally follow the same steps. Sewing machines will either have a drop-in bobbin, or a vertical bobbin with a bobbin case. Some machines may have a vertical or horizontal thread spool. These differences will not effect your ability to thread the machine or the final product in any way!

The videos I have included below feature an upright vertical thread spool, and a vertical bobbin with a bobbin case (this is the most typical sewing machine set up), however if your machine is different you can A) still follow along with these videos making adjustments as necessary or B) find a different tutorial on YouTube.

The three steps to prepare to sew include 1) winding your bobbin, 2) threading your sewing machine, and 3) catching your bobbin thread.

1) WINDING YOUR BOBBIN

2) THREADING YOUR SEWING MACHINE

3) CATCHING THE BOBBIN THREAD: This (and actually threading the needle), and the most difficult parts to preparing to sew. If you have any questions about this, or any other aspects in threading your machine please reach out to me for assistance!

I hope these videos were helpful in preparing your machine properly, and guess what?! NOW YOU'RE ALL READY TO START YOUR PROJECT! Let me know how it goes in the comments below, and make sure to check Sip & Sew regularly for new blog posts!
